What we recommend

Kalkan's topography has resulted in narrow winding cobbled streets that run along, and rise away from the waterfront. This has meant that over the years industrious restaurateurs have found all sorts of nooks and crannies in which to start a restaurant or a bar, and in so doing this has created the unique charm and character of Kalkan. Many eateries are located on roof terraces, offering views across Kalkan's rooftops to the sea, some are tucked in corners that need to be sought out, and others  areon the marina and beach front to rival any in the Mediterranean. Kalkan boasts over numerous excellent restaurants offering an eclectic choice of dishes from Turkish to International Cuisine. A shopper's paradise with the opportunity to strolling through the streets after dinner.Good dining has always been the way of life in Kalkan and continues today.  In fact, Kalkan is said to have the highest number of restaurants and bars per inhabitant or square meter on the Turkish coast (over 100 of them!).  Additionally, Kalkan is especially renowned in Turkey for its numerous roof terrace restaurants and bars which offer a wonderful view of the town, sea and stars.  It’s also nice to sit at one of the many fine harbour-side restaurants and watch the pleasure boats and fishermen leave early in the morning as you eat your breakfast, or see the fishing boats return with the day’s catch in the evening.

Kisla

You  cannot go wrong spending an evening in Kisla. How does this sound? Sundowners on the balcony or the roof terrace, not having to step foot in a car, and then enjoying an amazing meal in an amazing setting, between 1 and 5 mins walk from Kisla Falls. All these establishments are very close to Kisla Falls. You have the best of both worlds  in Kisla.

  • The Castle - Breakfast lunch and dinner and more! Turn right out of the gate and literally just a few doors down on the other side of the same road you will find The Castle. Please tell  Huseyn (the chef and proprietor) that you are staying at Kisla Falls and that we sent you! You can enjoy a traditional Turkish breakfast or more of a UK variation. The food is lovely. On Tuesday eve they do a 3 course BBQ with live music, Turkish meze, BBQ and dessert. Book ahead if you fancy this. You can find their website with menu choices and reservation info here.  The setting is gorgeous, as is the food. You can see their tripadvisor reviews here  https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g297964-d17625102-Reviews-The_Castle-Kalkan_Turkish_Mediterranean_Coast.html
  • Villa Mahal. - It’s 5 mins walk past the Castle. The draw to Villa Mahal is really the beautiful surroundings - you will be dining right next to the waves, bathed in soft warm lights, with views of Kalkan in the distance.  Personally for me I felt the food was not as 'en pointe' as the rest of food in Kalkan but perhaps it was an off day as other reviews since have been good. In any event, it was still a pleasant meal and  you just cannot get over the setting on the waterside which is extremely beautiful. It’s also more expensive than your average Kalkan restaurant. You can see their villa website here.
  • Food is also available at Kalkan Beach Club and Green Beach  Club and local hotels - all within a few minutes walk of Kisla Falls.

Dining in Kalkan

We have not tried every restaurant in Kalkan but we are making it our mission to try. Here is our personal view on the ones we have tried so far. We recommend every single one of the eateries below.

** for our 2022 favourites.

  • Loqma - divine savouries and cakes, on Bank street opposite the market. No tripadvisor profile yet as it opened in the pandemic.

Private dining

  • Kalkan Catering - Vicky Kusat and her team will cook for you at home. She is simply the best and we loved everything she made. Her website is here https://www.kalkancatering.com/
  • Take away - Sometimes it's nice not to worry about cooking and have a night in - so why not get it delivered to your door from a Kalkan takeaway? Ideal if you are arriving in Kalkan late in the evening. Try Hunkers and Oz Adana via the Villa Eats app (it's like Deliveroo)
We hope you enjoy dining in Kisla and Kalkan as much as we do.
